My Halloween Costume '10

I was attempting to get all decked up for Halloween as a demon/psycho-ologist/sinister psychologist/Lyla Alden with the devil horns she should have been born with, and I think I came pretty darn close. This costume was a BLAST.

Here's what I was going for:

...And here's what my costume ended up looking like.
I'm rather proud!

Red Lips

I use burny lipstick yesterday, the kind that stings and stains your lips, because it looked just perfect for the character I was playing that Halloween. But it WON'T COME OFF. It's really weird, heheh, because I hardly ever wear makeup at all, and now I'm walking around with these bright red lips and no mascara or anything XD

I promise, pics are coming - pics of Dear Sister, myself, and Brothers 1&2. Before the end of the year at the latest.

Happy Halloween!

EDIT: GAH! Due to blogger craziness, the pictures and the text are totally out of sink. Each bit of text has a description, however, so you should be fine if you read and look carefully. Read on!
----

Yippy! It’s the Day of the Dead, All Hallow’s Eve, that special day where people buy candy just to give it away. It’s like Christmas, only sweets instead of presents, and people give to strangers rather than those they know just to let kids have a good time. I think it’s a touching holiday, and a real fun one too, with all those fabulous costumes. I love picking them out and putting them together; it’s such a blast.

Since this year I won't be doing much for this special day, I thought I should post some dress-up memorabilia. I plan to be a Psycho-Ologist - or a Sinister Psychologist, or Lyla Alden, if you remember me ranting on her - this year, but you probably won't see pics until tomorrow. To tie you over, and for my own nostalgia's sake, here's every other year I ever dressed up:

Halloween, 1999, Dear Sister and I. I think we're supposed to be Barney and a Bumble bee, but who knows? The masks kind of throw me off.

Halloween 2003, Dear Sister as Alice in Wonderland and myself Super Man! Yippy!

A vampress and a mummy. Dear Sister's costume rocked this year, being 2004.

I went as a vampire for the second and last time, Dear Sister as a ghost. Isn't the blood a brilliant touch? And while I love sissy's hood, it's her killer expression that makes me want to drop dead. This is 2005.

Brother1's first time dressing up! At a year old, I believe, this is him as Super Baby. Dear Sister and I had AWESOME costumes this time around (we scared poor little kids on accident, they were so cool); me as a Ghost Bride, and she as a vampire in 2006. We switched our costumes from the last year, if you note.

Though I looked great as Medusa, the monster from Greek Mythology, getting the snakes out of my hair was a brutal, brutal memory I won't ever forget. But isn't Dear Sister just the cutest li'l witch you ever did see? She comes with a bumble bee, too!

You long-time readers should remember this one! My first Halloween on blogger, 2008, when I went as a Harpy (not a blackbird), again from Greek Mythology. Everyone else had chicken pox at the time (though I was soon to follow), so I was the only one who dressed up this time around.

This year ROCKED. Brother1 as Indiana Jones, myself as Anna Bolena, or Anne Boleyn, or Nan Bullen, Queen of England and my personal hero, Daddy as a Man in Black, Mommy as Donna Noble from Doctor Who, and Dear Sister as a Genie. Awesome, eh?

Myself, as Cinderella, last Halloween at 2009. This costume came out beautifully, I think, and that dress is one of my favorites.
That's it, I guess. Thanks for stopping by and reading - happy, happy, Halloween!

My First Dance

Last Sunday night just me and I went to a homeschool costume dance together (to clear up any false assumptions, I'll tell you now that we're JUST FRIENDS); Dear Sister would have come with us, but she isn't quite old enough yet.

Eventually we had fun... but at first I really didn't know what to do, the music was deafening, I kept tripping on my skirt, we didn't like any of the songs, we weren't allowed to go outside (to ESCAPE the noise and commotion!!!) if we wanted to come back in, and my hair fell out the moment a good song started to play(of course it was BEFORE we remember to get our pictures taken).

So my hair is a bird's nest, I'm feeling nausious from the "dancing" and we're both bored and a little lonely. We decided to get our pictures taken (for five dollars) before my costume got any messier, and we did--the lady was very nice and she said my smile was pretty, which made me feel good, though even now I'm sad about my hair. We still didn't want to go back up (anything to keep away from that noise), and we THEN found the room...

It was light peach and pink, with two cozy chairs and a vanity with a cushioned pink bench. There the music wasn't quite so loud, and even though we weren't allowed to keep the door closed (why, I have no clue), it was still a wonderful escape away from the ruccus.

Anyhow, I got the pins out of my hair, we chatted for a bit, then he went up when he heard a song he liked, while I braided my hair (without a hair-dooly-bopper) and pinned it (with the pins from my old hair-do) to the nape of my neck. It actually looked kind of pretty. I then followed him upstairs, and we had quite a bit more fun after that, going back and forth from dancing and eating grapes (me), oreos and punch (just me).

On our way upstairs we ran into someone who's makeup was done wonderfully to look like a skull. It was terribly frightening. Anyhow, he stopped just me and asked if they knew each other. Just me said...

"Well, I can't really tell..." then gestured to his makeup. I could empathise.

"Oh... yeah..."

Their discussion afterwards was really very, very humorous and I couldn't help but laugh as they speculated as to how they could possibly know one another. Eventually just me acknowledged that they must have seen each other at some point. It ended like this:

"Well, we know each other..."

"We don't know from where..." (just me)

"But we know each other! It was good to see you again!"

"You too!"

Later just me and I discussed who to vote for in the competitions (scariest, best make-up, craziest, prettiest,... and I think the last one was 'most creative'). I didn't vote, but gave advice to him on his choices(later two of the people we voted for actually won! It was pretty cool). I then looked behind me and saw a girl with a cute, short haircut, and I wasn't quite sure what she was dressed up as. I got closer to her, and then I noticed the 'blood' all over her and the bloody gash on her neck.

I talked to her for a little bit, and it turns out we both have the same name! I introduced her to just me and she introduced us to her friends and it got a lot more fun after that, because dances are just more fun with more people.

I entered a dance contest (just by dancing in the circle of people) for 'most original dance move' and did a few double pirouettes and developes because my arthritis was really good that day (of course, after I did that I could hardly move... so maybe it wasn't so good after all. And even that day I couldn't jump... it's been a while since I could jump). I didn't win, but it was fun, and just me and I decided we'd have to choreograph something with a bunch more people for next time.

We went to the room (which I mentally called 'The Escape Room') a couple times, running into the girl who shares my name and her friend and hanging out with them for the rest of the time.

We did the macarana, danced some more, they played Chasing Cars (one of my all time favorite songs!!!) and the Beetles (which just me apparently loves) and had a DJ contest. I requested Because the Night (another of my all time favorite songs), though they didn't have it by the right artist.

I warn you, I probably got the order of many of these events off because that night, when I look back on it, really is quite a blur. During the last 20 minutes of the drive home just me and I wrote the following poem:

The night was dark,
With ne'er a spark,
The wind it tossed and howled,

The birds came down,
Without word,
And the world was silent,

Then came the knight,
Of the white light,
Who called forth the sun,
The sun then said,
Gold and Red,
"At last the world is lightened."

When I got home it turns out my sibling had missed me so much (and had been so bored) that they made me a card! It was lovely, and they even cut out a sunflower and stuck it on the inside! Both Brother1&2 "drew" inside it, and I absolutely loved it! Anyhow, I said goodbye to just me and his mother, went to bed and promptly slept in to an hour I am, quite frankly, too embarrassed to mention.

Go to the top to see some pictures of me before I left (with my hair done-up). I was Cinderella, and just me was a Gambler/High Roller. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of him dressed up, or of the girl who shares my name and her friend.

So, boring at first, but later lodes of fun!

Happy Halloween!

Fall!

I guess I'm a day or so late, but oh well!

I love fall! All the pretty leaves and those wonderful apples (the leaves especially)... I love the cool crisp air, I love the icy nights and I love Halloween and Thanksgiving! I don't look forwards to the season, but when it's here I can't help but smile. Summer has been, and I'm pretty sure always will be, my favorite season since you can swim but I love each and everyone.

So yay for fall!

Another happy thing is that my grandparents (father's side) are visiting soon, so I'm very, very excited! I'm flooded with all this online schoolwork, and I want to get the bulk of it done before they come, so cross your fingers for me!

Anyhow, here's my post for the next while. I'll try to write soon!

Halloween '08--Part #1

So I got out of bed around 10:00 today, though I was awake much earlier. Mostly, we've just eaten breakfast and worked on our Costumes. Rose's is really cool, and I'd tell you what it was, but she asked me not to. You'll have to check her blog sometime soon to find out, I guess.

As for me, I'm probably just going to be Anne Boleyn, and not her ghost... it just ended up that way. We're working on making a headpiece, but I already have the perfect dress. The Neckline is just like what they wore!
As for jewelry, I have some fake pearls (she wore real ones) I don't have any gold chains (something else I've seen in her pictures) so some goldy-greeny necklace (that is very lovely, by the way) that goes with my dress will do.

Daddy should be coming home from work at around 3:15, which I'm very excited about! Halloween is going to be so fun!

Friday Fillins #29

Alrighty, then... This week's Friday Fillins!

1. My favorite food seasoning is probably salt...
2. Brother1 & 2 laughing is music to my ears.
3. Lucky is something I am.
4. Giving a hundred and ten percent of my energy to whatever it is I am doing, and continuing until I drop or I finish is something I take very seriously.
5. Many people think that Vegans are missing out on a lot, I feel that they are.
6. The Sims 2 Freetime expansion pack for Rose's 11th birthday was the last thing I bought at the store.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to Daddy coming home early, watching Arabian Nights, dressing up, baking and eating treats and walking around town to see Halloween decorations, tomorrow my plans include maybe going to a Potluck and Sunday, I want to have fun!

If you would like to do your own Fillins, go to this link, or find the Friday Fillins link on my side-bar.

Happy Halloween!

A good likeness, don't you think?

Brother1 as Indiana Jones--note
the coiled whip

It's him, Indiana Jones, 2008

Hands up!

Gosh, isn't he the cutest!?!?!?! (besides Brother2 of course!!!)

Oh, wait

Brother1 changed his mind. Now he's going to be Indiana Jones (now that will be some fun!!!)

P.S. If this post doesn't make sense, see this one.

Halloween

Golly... is it really only the day after tomorrow?! Ikes....

As you know, (if you read this post) I plan to be the ghost of Anne Boleyn (the second wife of King Henry VIII, who he had executed), but I don't think I mentioned that Brother1 intends to be a Bumble Bee (oh, gosh he is so cute when he's a Bumble Bee!!!), Rose might be the Kissy Monster (Brother1's idea), Some-One-Who-Didn't-Dress-Up-For-Halloween, or something else she thinks up at the last minute. Mommy is going to be a Harried Mother by wearing pajamas, messing her hair up and looking dazed... I'm not sure what Brother2 will end up being, or Daddy, but I'm sure we'll think of something.

Since we're vegan, we probably won't go trick-or-treating, but we definitely will celebrate! We plan to watch Arabian Nights (you know, that story about the crazy sultan who gets a new wife everyday and then executes her so she can't betray him... but then he marries Scheherazde, and she tells him a new story every night, but never finishes them in the same day, so the sultan is left in suspense, and if he has her killed, he'll never know what happens next. The movie is basically the many stories she tells, and a bit about her story), listen and dance to Halloween-ee music, make a few treats, dress up and walk about the streets to see Halloween decorations.

Anyways, I'm really really excited and just can't wait!

Happy Halloween!

Galaxy

P.S. I'd like to see what you are going to be for Halloween... it'd be nice if you could comment it for me!

Monday, October 20, 2008

I have decided!

Yes, everyone, I at last know what I'm going to be for Halloween!

Not a Fairy... (I was one when I was six)

Not a Vampire... (did that... twice)

Not a Witch... (too cliche)

Not Medusa... (honestly, getting the snakes out of my hair was worse then getting my hair up for a ballet recital. That's saying something. I am never doing that AGAIN!)

Not a Harpy... (I was that last year)

Not a Ghost... well, actually, I am a ghost, but a bit more specific...

I will be The Ghost of Anne Boleyn!

You probably know who she is, but I didn't until I read Shakespeare's Secret (which was fairly recently) so I'll just say a few things about her:

She was the second wife of King Henry VIII (the 8th), mother to Queen Elizabeth I (the first), and was beheaded for adultery to the King. Whether or not those charges were true is under speculation... there really isn't a way to know for sure. Supposedly she was cheating on King Henry with five different men (it might have been four... I am uncertain), one of which was her brother (rather weird, right?). All of them (one might have been spared, but I'm pretty sure all of them) were beheaded. Including Anne.
Probably the main reason for her execution was that she never gave birth to a boy, just one girl, Elizabeth. She did get pregnant at least one other time, but the children never made it.

King Henry had four other wives after Anne, and one before. He had three children together, a daughter named Mary (with his first wife, Catherine of Aragon--how do you spell that? I ), Elizabeth (Anne Boleyn's girl, who only saw her mother in her youngest years), and a boy, Edward (can't remember his mom. I get them confused) and three of his six wives were named Catherine (though they differed on the spelling).

I've liked Anne since I first read about her... she seemed smart, kind and brave to me from what I know about her. I think it will be a lot of fun to be her ghost for this Halloween, and I plan to do a big bloody gash on my neck where my head had been 'chopped off'.

Galaxy

P.S. I'm not really certain of what kind of costume I'll wear, so suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

Friday Fillins #24

Here we go, Friday fill ins!

1.Halloween and fall leaves are some of the things I'm most looking forward to in October.
2. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to live in the old ages, but I always end up thanking the Lord I live now.
3. If you think you can or you can't, your right (that's my dad's favorite saying!), and that's why there is a saying, "never say never"!
4. When I'm down, I find it hard to hide it, and most people can guess it in a matter of seconds. The thing is, I'm very energetic, and when I'm down I'm not, so it's pretty noticeable.
5. In my home is where you'll find me most often.
6. A rainy day is good for Rainbows (such beautiful things...), and nice walks just after it (for the sweet, fresh air).
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to Daddy coming home, tomorrow my plans include nothing, really, and Sunday, I want to hang out!

I guess that's it! Happy weekend, and happy fall!

Fall and Halloween

Gosh, I can't believe summer is gone! Things are gonna be a lot different....

Still, I'm super excited about fall. When I step outside, I just feel that crisp, clean fall air... it's one of my favorite smells (pretty close to a spring day after it rains). I love that feeling you get, knowing that Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Years Day are coming... knowing that it's fall, and knowing it's all changing.

Another reason why I love fall is the leaves. Oh, my, gosh I love the leaves. They are red, and orange, and yellow, and purple all mixed in with a few renegade greens... It makes me love driving, just so I can see all of the pretty colors.

As for Halloween....

Being Vegan, I probably won't go Trick-Or-Treating, though I'll definitely dress up, and maybe we'll have some kind of party. One Problem: WHAT CAN I BE?!?!?!?!?

I've been a Vampire(twice), a Ghost/Zombie Thing, Medusa (from ancient Greek mythology, she has snakes for hair and if you look at her you turn to stone) and a Harpy.

Assuming I really don't want to be a witch (that's sooo cliche, I want creative!), and I want to be something new, what can I be?

Besides my Halloween dilemma, I have high hopes for this fall, it's definitely one of my favorite seasons. I'll be sad to see it go.

;-)

Harpy, NOT Blackbird

Here's my Halloween costume, I know it's late but I just figured out how to put pictures in my Blog and it's such a cool costume!!! What do you think? The only annoying thing about it was that everyone thought I was a bird... And the claws... Oh I hated the claws!!!

Fall Fashions

Hey!

So it's the cold season and that means that it's fall fashion! No more cute skorts or simple sundresses, which is sad, but now it's time to pull out all of those turtle necks (a great look on a cool day, they work really well with jeans and a head band), sweat shirts (these look good with jeans or sweats and I would put my hair in a pony braid [two braids that join together at the back of my neck and become a pony tail the rest of the way]), and sweats (sweats work best with--big surprise--sweat shirts)! I'm going to be a Harpy for Halloween hopefully, though i might end up being whatever we have in the dress up clothes... I really want to be a Harpy though. Home School Gym Day (when all of us homeschoolers go to a gym and hang out) is cancelled this Halloween, which makes me really sad because i wanted to hang out with my friends and show off my costume... Oh well... I'll still have fun.

Any suggestions on where to find a black jumpsuit for the harpy i want to be?

Fall/Winter

I love the feel of fall/winter! I just took a smell of that cold air... Oh my! It feels like Thanksgiving and Christmas! I love the dark, moist air... the cool and starry nights... I keep forgetting how much I love winter and fall until they come around again! I can't wait until Thanksgiving... We're going to make a tofurky! It was SO delicious last year... My mouth is watering just thinking about it... And I'll make some chocolate pudding... yeah, that sounds good... Any way, for Halloween I'll be a harpy (half bird half woman). I'm not going to go trick-or-treating this year because I'm Vegan and I wouldn't like to be around so much candy. I am going to dress up and go to ballet for some Halloween class, it will be a lot of fun. I plan to make a cake! I love cooking. I make meals for my family all the time now, I made us pancakes for breakfast today. I hope you're as excited about fall as I am!

The end of summer...

Hi!

So summer's over... I miss it already. The thing i'll miss most is swimming! We had to put our pool away yesterday, we were out there forever and it still wasn't done! Daddy, Dear Sister (find her blog at: me-in-general.blogspot.com) and i were doing it for a long time... My left pinkie turned completely white! I'm not kidding! I could barely feel it... We finished it just a little bit ago, mommy would have helped but she had to watch and care for Brother2. As the end of summer approached, i started to fear it... but then i thought of all the wonderful things fall would bring: the gorgeous leaves, Halloween, Not-Back-To-School-Day, Thanks Giving, and of course it will be cooler... If only i could just keep swimming with out freezing to death... But then what would summer be good for? I don't know... It's just my favorite season.
